Welcome back everyone! Whether this is your first time stepping onto Western’s tree-and-red-brick-filled campus or you’re returning, we at Wavelength are excited for you to be here! In the last 4 years, we have continued to stay true to our roots by learning about and sharing the student experience. Still, Wavelength has grown and evolved in that time, and this year is not without change either.
In the spring, we came together to envision what a volunteer program would look like for Wavelength in hopes of expanding the perspectives we share to include as many student voices as possible. With only five staff members, this is not always feasible. Now, any student can create and publish projects with support from the staff! Along with this new aspect of our program, we had the opportunity to reconsider how Wavelength’s visual design demonstrated what we aim to communicate. And so, we devised a new logo and broad rebranding meant to convey joy and curiosity. As we worked to come up with this new look, I saw a photo of a sun-filled street lined with trees and children riding their bikes that prompted a feeling of absolute joy that spoke to me—it resonated with how it feels to be a part of and create projects for Wavelength. With this new look came the chance to create a brand-new website (to put it plainly, our old website sucked) and to begin with a fresh slate ideal to house our projects—past, present, and future. Overall, this change is for the students, as we do everything to create projects that students can take in and enjoy.
As Western’s campus greets us with a quintessential fall and its students get settled into the new school year, I hope you look to Wavelength for a bit of that student community. Maybe, through fascinating stories from Molly, amusing videos from Brent, and, as always, a little comedic relief from Meg and the rest of the staff, you’ll feel a bit of that joy and curiosity we try to bring to campus. If you don’t find what we publish to your liking, please tell us! We’ll probably say something like, “Well, if you volunteer with us, you can publish something to your liking!”
